Mnemonics & Music

‘Richard Of York Gained Battles In Vain’

‘Never Eat Shredded Wheat’

These are examples of simple mnemonics which we can use to help us to remember things.

Just think how many songs you can remember, just a few bars of the music or a few lyrics will help you recall lots more of the song.

Many of us learn the alphabet or colours of the rainbow via a song, you can apply the same process to the the learning of complex data, music or sysings can be a ‘short cut’ to learning and remembering information.

One group of children that I teach recently demonstrated a ‘rap’ to help them remember information for a biology exam.

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

North, East, South and West.
